The Russian president has repeatedly expressed pride in his service as KGB communist official in Dresden during the 1980s.
His ID was found during documents for joint KGB and Stasi operations.
Putin, then senior KGB officials, had accepted this card in 1985.
In a statement by the Stasi Information Agency, Putin was said to have obtained this identity card to continue his KGB affairs in collaboration with the Stasi.
The Ministry of State Security of the former East German, was known for the unusual forms of wiretapping ordinary citizens, most of whom had even been forced to spy for each other.
