On a surprise visit to two military bases in Iraq and Germany on Christmas occasion, US President Donald Trump has thanked the country's troops for their worldwide service. The head of the White House said missions in Middle East countries would end soon as wars are costing a lot to the American state budget, while non-retaining obligations from affected countries is unfair.
US President Donald Trump has defended his decision about the withdrawal of American troops from Syria, claiming that the United States will no longer play the role of “police officer” in the world.
During a surprise visit to a military base in Iraq, along with the first lady, the White House head justified the recent move on the reason that wars around the world have become a financial burden on the American budget.
Trump: We must no longer allow countries to take advantage of our kindness and exploit our extraordinary army for protection. These countries should start paying for the services they receive.
President Trump informed that the withdrawal of approximately 2 thousand American troops from Syria would proceed according to plan, as they had enough time to defeat the jihadist group I SIS.
Before returning to Washington again, the presidential couple continued another brief meeting in a German plane barn, where hundreds of members of the American military personnel were located.
Meeting on Christmas occasion, Trump and the first lady were greeted and photographed along with uniform-free soldiers, some of whom expected to receive autographs on baseball hats designed with the expression “Making America great as before”.
