The United States government has officially closed in part after Congress has postponed the budget approval.
The closure of almost 25 percent of Government means that some of the main agencies have suspended their operations on December 22nd.
The closure of the government came after republican senators and Democrats failed to reach a deal on expenditures.
US President Donald Trump has pledged that he will not sign any budget law, which does not include $5 billion for building the wall on the border between the US and Mexico.
The Democrats strongly oppose building the wall and have said they would vote on the budget if funds for building the wall are not included.
Officials estimate that 800 thousand federal employees will either be temporarily fired or forced to work without being paid immediately.
The closure of the Government will affect NASA staff, the Department of Commerce, the State Department, the Department for National Security, Justice and Agriculture.
National parks are expected to remain open, but most employees in these parks will not work.
The Senate earlier this week unanimously adopted the Bill on Spending without including funds for building the wall at the border and sent this bill to the House of Representatives. The House of Representatives, however, included money for building the wall and reassembled it in the Senate, where there wasn't enough votes to pass.
Both the Senate and the House of Representatives are expected to hold sessions at noon on December 22nd, where they will try to reach agreement.
On December 21st, President Trump wrote on Twitter that he hopes government closure will not last long.
“I hope the closure doesn't last long”, he wrote, insisting that our “our nation should have security at the” border. /rel
