Macron, during a media conference in Chad, said that “an ally must be reliable”.
I deeply regret the decision I make on Syria”, he added.
On December 22nd, Trump defended his decision to withdraw American troops from Syria, as he said they have carried out their mission in defeating the militant group, the Islamic State in Syria.
On December 20th, US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis resigned after Trump's decision. Two days later, US envoy to global coalition in fight against IS, Brett McGruk also resigned because of the decision to withdraw American troops.
Many other military leaders have also said that the US withdrawal presents treason against the Syrian-Arab coalition and the Kurdish coalition, which the US-led coalition has supported in the fight against the IS. Meanwhile, Turkey has threatened to enter areas controlled by Kurdish groups, saying they are linked to Kurdish separatists in Turkey, sent REL.
NATO Allies, including France and Germany, have expressed their concerns over the drastic change of the US course in the fight against IS, a group that has left most Syrian territory, but continues to have a small presence in some parts of Syria.
