After a whole decade of foot-dragging thermal power plant “New Kosovo” could be decided in April of next year if financing is secured and the project gets two-thirds of the vote in the Kosovo Assembly as state guarantees. So optimistic was Minister of Economic Development Valdrin Luka.
Economic Development Minister Valdrin Luka, during an interview with the newspaper “Voice” did not rule out the possibility of failing to build the new thermal power plant “New Kosovo”. According to him, such a thing could happen if funding is not secured and the same does not get consent in the Kosovo Assembly. The situation calls it difficult to attract the World Bank (BB) from funding.
However, according to Luka, this has not hampered the project after foreign companies have been presented as the American Agency for Funding Outdoor Projects with the International Japanese Bank. “I believe in the month of March both these organisations on their boards will vote on the financial package. If everything goes well in April, they should come to the Kosovo Assembly to vote with two-thirds of the state guarantee regarding the project. And if in Kosovo's Parliament, I believe that in April or May, the fountain for this” thermal power plant can also be located, the minister has indicated.
