German authorities confiscated more cocaine during 2018 than ever before.
About 9 tons of drugs were seized in one day in the container at the Spanish port of Algecira. Its market value was nearly half a billion euros. The record amount was considered an indication of a phenomenon that German investigators call “cumen from South America”.
According to an assessment by Germany's Federal Criminal Bureau, the seized cocaine in Germany has increased significantly this year. 608 tonnes were secured in the country until November. The reason for such a flood of narcotics lies primarily, according to authorities, in large quantities produced in countries such as Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia.
Meanwhile, the continuation of the large flow of drug inflow has kept it clean in street sales at the same price.
But increased competition is increasingly brutalising the cocaine market in Europe, bringing orders of murder, kidnapping, police violence and efforts to intimidate workers at ports. More present are criminal networks from the Western Balkans and Morocco, though Ndangheta is not left behind. /Top Channel
