On January 1, 2019, Romania takes over the rotating EU presidency.
The Social Democrat-led government will conquer Brussels and Strasbourg.
Prime Minister Viorica Dancila's government says it will revolutionise, and will show the country to Merkel, Macroni, Kurz, others. But, despite the pomp in Bucharest, the Romanian presidency will have little voice in the EU. The major decisions of the first quarter 2019 bypass Romania. Brexit and European elections are nearly closed, nor can they be affected nor change direction from unexpected developments in the Romanian presidency.
In Brussels, however, it is said the Romanian presidency is welcomed. The government in Bucharest has not a few problems so it cannot cause trouble in Brussels. Meanwhile, European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker has cast doubts about Romania's ability in the rotating EU presidency amid tensions between Bucharest and Brussels. /Periscopi
