Germany's Embassy representative Ana Beckie has declared corruption to be the country's biggest damage, which also harms development.
“Corruption is not an abstract thing, it's something that damages our daily lives, damages our lives, our development. We rejoice that citizens have participated in this race in large numbers, have brought their ideas, and have told us about the consequences of corruption caused by”, Beckie said.
While the Anti-Corruption Agency chief, Shaip Havolli, said the level of corruption in Kosovo is too high.
Havolly acknowledged that this phenomenon is difficult to fight.
The corruption level in our country is high, despite the commitments of various law enforcement institutions, in this case even the Anti-Corruption Agency, the level of corruption is high and we are mobilised to fight it as much as possible. But, together with other institutions, in this case civil society, every day and more is active and is very present with regard to preventing and combating corruption”, Havol said.
He has also said that throughout the year they have received much information from just KDI about cases of conflict of interest.
Florent Spahija, a legal official in KDI, has asked the Kosovo government to dismiss all ministers and deputy ministers who have the indictment, where he has also encouraged all Kosovo citizens to report corruption.
“Transparency International in terms of global corruption perceptions listed for 2017 Kosovo is 85th with 39 points, away from the global average, which is 43 points. Kosovo continues to be governed by corrupt people, we continue to have a government that has ministers with the indictment, deputy ministers with the indictment, as well as a justice which in not many cases is very efficient, citizens wait years to be carried out and complete their courses. And which has caused a lot of consequences even in perception, which have shown that such cases, their citizens wait for the years”, have ended Spahija.
In the name of KDI has called on the Kosovo government to bring the case of Chief State Prosecutor Alexander Lumez back to the attention, because, according to him, there has long been no reaction to the case, in turn, and the country's institutions.
In the end, winners have also been rewarded, sharing the first three awards for the best photos and videos among 115 applicants.
Citizens who have applied through photography have had to present the consequences of corruption, while through video they give their own ideas about how to fight this phenomenon.
All this has been meant to increase citizens' awareness of the harmful effects of corruption on their dailyity and promote active citizenship to support the fight against corruption.
