National security of Kosovo has been put at risk because of cyber attacks on the pages of state institutions of the Republic of Kosovo by hackers.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed this in the evening hours of today, saying that these last 24 hours, state institutions have experienced powerful cyber attacks, and these attacks are coming from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to them, relevant authorities have responded and are working to keep the communication system safe and operational.
The Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs system “Ding has experienced a cyber attack. The relevant authorities have responded and are working to keep the communication system safe and operational. Initial investigations show the sources of attacks mainly come from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina”
In addition to state institutions within the country, these cyber attacks have also affected institutions outside Kosovo as diplomatic ones around the world.
Mentor Hoxhaj, former state overseer at the Agency for the Protection of Personal Data and security expert, has told the Indexline that cyber security in Kosovo leaves much to be desired.
So the result has come easily to the attacks that have hit the cyberspace today.
Kosovo level cybernetic security is enough to wish. Security and Cyber Security standards are not improvised, we have a very small number of private institutions certified with international security standards” Hoxhaj has been expressed for Indexline.
According to him, the latest case of cyber attacks that have hit Kosovo has tried to hide from institutions.
“We have often encountered in hiding cyberattacks, as was the last case, where a relatively large number of institutions have been affected by Ransomware, unknown to the damage caused”, Hoxhaj stressed.
He has added that this is contrary to local standards and legislation related to these attacks.
“ ... This disreportation is contrary to security standards and local and international legislation. It is necessary to report cyberattacks in principle to standards. Their follow-up comes in damages such as, The Breach Data Hakim data, Privacy Breach biach personal data Hakim, Data incident - access to data” has said Hoxhaj.
Hoxhaj for Indexline said competent institutions should report these attacks and measures, as citizens are at risk.
“We hear about the attacks unless we have information about the type of attack, origin and damage caused or that is expected to be caused. And how much less for the measures taken or the measures that are getting the best of the reactive organs, which would have to be activated by CERT, because this is their task” Hoxhaj said.
Otherwise, there is still no warning whether the danger from these attacks has been averted or whether cyberspace in the Republic of Kosovo is threatened.
