In a proposal for ATSH, Korca District Prefect Dqiri Spirolari briefed on the latest initiative for the construction of Lumalas airport in Korca, a project with a considerable impact on the development of tourism in this region.
According to Spirolari, the feasibility study for the project has already been completed, research funded by the Albanian Development Fund at the request of the Korca municipal council. Meanwhile, according to him, all district municipalities have voiced agreement to this project.
The project to build Lumalas airport has a 25m-euro investment value, and is projected to be realised step by step.
Initially it will work for lowering small tourist aircraft, for general aviation, and then aimed at placing it in efficiency as a low-line international airport.
A few days ago, Prefect Spirolari organised a meeting with local and central government representatives for the Lumalas airport. These discussions focused on the launching of this major project, with no prior investments, and then step by step ensuring revenues that will be invested directly in this project.
In 94 years, Corca will now have a functioning airport. By 1924-1944, Corca had its own operational airport, which was used mainly for internal air transport and provided connections to Tirana, Bishop, Shkodra, and so forth.
