About five thousand cases of thefts committed have been recorded in Kosovo this year. Statistics, which are published by police, contain data for ten months,
In such cases, concern is said to be the number of armed robberys, which, in addition to material and property damage, are also directly threatened by the lives of citizens.
According to Kosovo Police spokesman Daut Hoxha, the Pristina region is the most endangered by armed robbery.
“over this period of time, January-October, in the region of Pristina, 59 cases of armed robbery have occurred. In all other regions, however, much less armed robbery has occurred, namely, six cases have been recorded in banks. In these six cases, seven people are suspects, three suspects have been arrested”, Hoxha says.
According to Hodge, in addition to regular patrol members, the rule forces have also engaged in investigations involving and investigating cases of theft and robbery, to protect the lives and property of citizens, and offer general security.
The “police, following intense investigation into the whitelight and arrest of perpetrators of these acts, have hit 13 criminal groups allegedly involved in these cases, have arrested 32 suspected persons who are in custody, of them persons who allegedly committed more than two robberies, while six other suspects identified by police are on the run”, the police spokesman adds.
As he expresses concern with the situation, security affairs connoisseur Avni Islami says that because of the neglect of institutions which, according to him, have put the issue of security aside, the lives and property of citizens are also at risk.
According to him, one of the first and urgent steps is to put security cameras on the street, in all cities.
“requires that Kosovo institutions, municipalities, install security cameras and the relevant offices completely monitor the city by the Kosovo Police, because this would also have psychological impact on organised criminal groups, which in their awareness would impress them that they were actually monitored 24 hours. And for a professional robbery to be carried out at the peak of the day, they have nowhere to go and they will be arrested by Police”, Islam says.
In this regard, Islam estimates that state institutions have failed to neutralise organised criminal groups.
It requires drafting a strategy to improve the situation and proposes legal changes that give citizens more rights to self-defense when facing armed robbery.
The family must be passed by law, allowed to use the firearm in extreme self-defense, as has the last case. We have many cases, both in Albie Mall, and other cases when security workers are executed because they have not been armed, they have not even been able to defend themselves by criminal gangs”, Islam notes.
Last week in Pristina, a person has shot a gun to death, another person who had entered his property and was suspected of committing a theft.
Earlier this year, there have been several cases when during the theft, thieves have killed homeowners and business guards.
Otherwise, last year, 535 cases of criminal theft have been recorded throughout Kosovo. / REL/
