After two weeks of intensive talks in the Polish town of Katovica, negotiators decided that the measures envisioned in the agreement three years ago should come into force starting in 2020.
The Paris agreement sanctions that the average Earth temperature will not increase by more than 2 degrees Celsius within half the century to avoid possible disasters that are expected to occur due to climate change.
To achieve that goal, signatory states promised to drastically reduce the emissions of carbon gases, help countries with lower incomes and ensure that each side is meeting the obligations agreed upon.
The talks in Katovica nearly threatened to fail after Brazil did not approve the quickest take of carbon reduction measures, but the parties thought the debate would be postponed for next year.
Steps on how to meet all political and climate objectives were detailed in a 156-page technical document signed by delegates present at the conference.
