About 15 thousand citizens have put their signature on a petition aimed at uniting the town of Mitrovica.
The municipality's deputy chairman, Faruk Mujka, says the petition will be handed over to the Kosovo Assembly in the first week of January, KTV reports.
He says convinced that the petition will receive support from all MPs.
Citizens say if there is political will, the city union will happen.
South Mitrovica Mayor Agim Bahtiri kicked off with the idea of uniting the city in a single municipality, following northern Mitrovica chairman Goran Rakic's resignation.
Bahtiri has continued efforts to realise his idea through petition, as the demand for changing the border law was rejected by the Ministry of Local Power.
Although Bahtiri has voiced confidence that his initiative is supported by central institutions as well, it has been Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, who has seen the city's initiative for unity. /Periscopi
