Family housing is the favorite form of protecting abandoned children, abused or neglected by their biological families.
A foster family means offering care, love, and a sense of belonging to community people.

Psychologist Laureta Isa Shala highlights the importance that foster families have on abandoned children.

One among the alternative forms for child protection without parental attention is the home. The child develops healthy when the need for physical, emotional, and psychological development is met within the family context”

It further adds: “in our country, it is very important that in most municipalities there are foster families that take care of abandoned children for certain periods of time, up to reunion with the biological family, or until the adoption of any nonbiological family, but that the need for new housing families continues to be large (4)x1>.

One of the housing families in Kosovo, preferring to remain anonymous, shows the positive experience and change that has brought a child's housing to their home.

Three years ago we started our most beautiful adventure: The kid! We welcomed the child without parental care with excitement, enthusiasm, and happiness but also with fear and doubt. Every day we live together, we find something new, we laugh, we cry, we get angry, we get excited! Family housing gave us a new meaning for our lives and made it better” highlight the parenting parents.

In Kosovo, the Organisation for Children Without Parental Care (OFAP) is an organisation that deals with family housing as an alternative form of protecting abandoned, abused, neglected and neglected children.

Currently, there are 43 foster families in Kosovo, while the number of children who are located in the family shelter ranges from month to month.
