The chairman of the Kosovo Judiciary Council (KGJK), Nehat Idrizi, has said courts have been working on reducing corruption substances and organised crime. But it has clarified that there are over 260 substances of corrupt nature and 60 organised crime substances. Selecting these subjects was also a condition for visa removal. Although it was promised that this year Kosovo would gain visa liberalisation, this will not happen, even though the conditions are said to have been met.

According to Idrizi, penal policy is not at the right level, and according to this, the accused are not receiving the appropriate sentence.

“We know that one of the EU conditions in terms of liberalisation has been fighting corruption and organised crime. There have been about 305 substances of nature corrupt in seven fundamental courts, where most of them, about 180 subjects, have been in Pristina's basic court, since the Pristina fundamental court covers the larger territory, but also the very fact that Pristina as head of nature has been a procedure in this court. Currently, according to the latest report, we have about 260 subjects of this nature, and over 800 people charged. As far as organized crime subjects are concerned, there is no large number of subjects. Based on statistics somewhere about 60 substances of this nature are”, Idriz told Economy Online.

Regarding the letter sent by the chairman of the Constitutional Court of northern Mitrovica, Nikola Kabashiq, the international factor for imposing the government's tax on Serbian products, Idrizi said they have asked judges there to refrain from actions that are out of the judges ' code of ethics.

“We are informed through non-official routes, Judge Kabashi has addressed to us the international factor for lack of food and food and other things because of the decision that was made by the government for the appointment of the tax and we as the judicial council have examined and analysed this situation and the letter that has been addressed, we have originally decided that with a letter of instruction we refer to all judges and the staff of that court through which we have demanded from the chairman, the staff contains in any statement or action that comes out of the court code for justice, because the judges and judges' duty of justice and the citizens' case, and they have the jobs of their own judges and the representatives of that are in order of the judiciary, and they are calling for any rights of the prosecution of that is, and then they're taking part of the rules of the prosecution.

Idrizi said that work at the Court in the north has been blocked for just two hours a day and not all the time, due to protests being held by Serbian citizens due to the tax.

We know all of the situation in the north because of the protests that are staged by citizens of that part, unfortunately protests are held near the object of the basic court in Mitrovica, and the reason why they are held next to the court is that on the basis of the written announcement that I have mostly protests held close to international institutions' objects. Protests last two hours from 11 o'clock to 1 and during this period the parties or citizens who need to perform a service cannot enter because of the protest, while after the end of the protest everything is back to normal”, he said.

As regards the increase in the number of judges, he said that 37 judges would be recruited this year and that next week they would proceed to the president for decree until he has called the number of subjects handed over by EULEX to local judges a concern, EO reports.

We are now completing the recruit of 37 judges. The last meeting has approved the list of 37 judges I believe will proceed to the president for the decree next week, and there are mid-month competitions to complete 27 judges' positions, as well as with support staff courts, in this year it has allowed 112 new positions mainly of support staff, professional associates and legal officials with these new positions fortunately with the changes made in the court, and it has been passed for every judge to have a professional associate. We plan over 240 professional collaborators. Based on the data we received earlier about 118 subjects EULEX has handed them over to our courts, most of them have been to Pristina. The handover of these subjects is a challenge that Pristina judges are overloaded with materials, when this number is added, is evidence that it will burden the situation even more”, Idrizi said.
