The bad weather and torrential rains that have swept Italy in recent days have taken more than 25 lives. The 12 members of a family, between them and a child, have lost their lives within a mansion in Palermo because of the Milicia River bed.
Everything has happened in a few minutes, not allowing family members who were celebrating to leave their homes. Police and firemen have arrived immediately, but only 3 of the members have managed to escape because they were not in the apartment at the time of tragedy.
Among the victims are two children, Rachel 1 and Francesco 3. The tragedy in Palermo comes at a time Italy is facing bad weather. Part of the country has been destroyed as a result of heavy rainfall and powerful winds, while the number of victims has increased.
Thousands of people have been evacuated because of landslides, while more than 300 thousand trees have been damaged. According to neighbouring country media, material damage can reach more than 1 billion euros.
Authorities have ordered the closure of many schools, while many roads have been blocked.
