Ukrainian navy said the incident took place today, as three ships, including two small warships, were traveling from the port in Odessa located on the Black Sea to Marioupolis on the Azov Sea.
Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), which controls state naval services, accused Kiev of illegally entering Russian waters and has deliberately provoked a conflict.
The Azov Sea is an area that has raised tensions between Moscow and Kiev, since Russia annexed the Crimea in 2014 and then began supporting separatists in Ukraine's East, in the conflict that killed more than 10,300 people.
Both sides have increased their military presence in the Azov region.
A Russian ship “struck our ship”, Ukrainian Marina said in a statement to the media, saying the ship has suffered damage.
Russian ships “have carried out open operations on Ukrainian ships”, said further in the statement. (REL)
