Opening the Paris Peace Forum, Merkel warned that nationalism is taking root in Europe and beyond.
It noted the disturbing will of some to promote their interests and ignore ties that support peace since the end of World War II.
The German Chancellor noted that most of today's challenges cannot be solved only by one country, but in co-operation with others, seeking a common approach in the world, the AP reports.
“If isolation was not the solution 100 years ago, how can it happen in today's interconnected world?” said Merkel, warning that if there is no compromise, there will be no peace.
