In his speech, French leader Emmanuel Macron urged world leaders to join for a “joint peace struggle”.
The “Demons of the past and new ideologies are threatening peace. History is at the moment when it is threatened to return to its tragic course by compromising the legacy of peace that was sealed with the blood of our ancestors. We know the price of peace, we know its weight and we know what it requires”, he stressed.
Among the leaders attending the ceremony under the Arch of Triumph were US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who shook hands just before the ceremony began.
Early in the morning before the Paris memorial ceremony and the area to which it will be celebrated is armoured to secure the lives of participants and prevent some terrorist attack. Gendarmerie in the country has mobilised over 10,000 forces and over 2,000 and 300 firefighters to maintain order and high figures that will join the official celebration.
One of the bloodiest battles in human history, the Great War caused some 17 million casualties between soldiers and civilians between 1914 and 1918.
It ended 100 years ago with the signing of the ceasefire in the French Compunian municipality between the allies of France and the Great Powers led by Germany.
