Italian police arrested Francesco Amato, who was now being held hostage in a Pjeva Modoleno post office, reports ANSA.
Before the arrest, Amato released two of the four hostages, and so far it is unclear whether he surrendered or the police forced him out of office.
When they appeared with the kidnapper in front of the post office, police officers received an explosion of applause from people present in the country, the agency adds.
Amateu several days ago was sentenced to 19 years in prison for links to the mafia.
ANSA reports that Amato had sought to speak to the Italian Interior Minister.
He is one of 125 charged, who were sentenced last week in Emilia Regia, in court for including the organised criminal group Ndanget from southern Italy in the Emily district cases.
ANSA reported that Amato, when he entered the post office, had called: “I was sentenced to 19 years. ”
