The shooting began at around 11:20 local time on Wednesday at Borderline Bar and Grill, located 65 kilometers northwest of Los Angeles.
At least 200 people are reported to have been inside the bar during the time of the serious incident.
“I can tell you that there are many victims, multiple injuries, and one of them is a cop who went to the scene, as well as the person who fired,”The police said, while adding that the number of injured is expected to increase.
Approximately 30 shots were heard, said a source for Russia Today.
Witnesses said that the gunman first shot the guard at the bar door, dropped smoke bombs inside, and then started shooting.
To save them, they used chairs to break windows, while others took refuge inside the toilets.
Reports say the suspect may have used smoke grenades and at least one gun, described as a semi-automatic pistol by witnesses during the attack.
