Former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski's spectacular escape looks like a movie with spies.
Gruevski passed with an ID card in Albania and then to Montenegro and then arrived in Hungary, where he applied for political asylum.
He has been assisted by Hungarian diplomats who provided transportation.
Data by Macedonian, Albanian and Montenegrin police now present a relatively accurate view of former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski's escape route through the Balkans in Hungary to avoid a two-year prison sentence.
The road then runs through Albania, Montenegro and Serbia with frequent diplomatic support of automobiles.
Gruevski arrived in the Albanian capital on Sunday. He stayed at the Hungarian Embassy, where he first informed Hungarian authorities of his purpose to seek asylum. This was confirmed in part by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's cabinet chief, who on Thursday said Gruevski made clear his goal at a Hungarian embassy, though not specifying it.
Albanian police have confirmed that Gruevski left the country at the border crossing from Hani Hoti at 7:11 p.m. on Sunday evening. Gruevski was a passenger in a car owned by the Hungarian Embassy in Albania. According to Albanian police Gruevski used the ID after his passport was confiscated last year by Macedonian authorities. But according to Albanian police at the time of the transition, Interpol had not yet issued an order for his arrest, so he was not technically a wanted person.
Not even during the time he stayed in Montenegro was it understood that Greuvski was there. He has left Montenegro only three hours after he entered it using the Dobrakova border crossing with Serbia. In Derby he met with Hungarian diplomatic representatives living in Belgrade. He spent the night in Prijepolje City, Hotel Lux. Then there is no known how he traveled to Hungary.
We remember that Gruevski has governed Macedonia for over 10 years, while being sentenced by a court due to official abuses that were uncovered with the purchase of a Benzi, worth about 600 thousand euros.
