The mid-term elections Tuesday in the US will largely determine the future of US policy for the next two years. The key question in these choices is: Will the Republicans be able to retain control of Congress and Senate?
Historically, the president's party has lost seat in the House of Representatives during mid-term elections. In 2010, two years after Barack Obama's first election, the Democrats lost 63 seats. Polls show, however, that Democrats are unlikely to take control of the Senate and may even lose any seats they currently have.
The Democrats need 23 more seats to take control, which would limit the possibility of Trump operating to fulfill some of his key promises, such as building the wall along the border with Mexico. The distinguishing characteristic of these elections is that there are higher female candidates than in all past elections and that three states have the chance to elect African-American governors for the first time.
Most locations will be closed between 7:00 and 11:00 local times. In Alaska and Hawaii, however, the locations are expected to close at midnight. The first preliminary results of these elections are expected to come up in a very short time after the deployments are closed.
