The lack of atmospheric rainfall and drought has contributed to the delay of autumn sowing, especially cereals in Kosovo. In the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (MBPZHR), they have shown that only 10 percent have been realized from the surfaces planned for planting.

Delaying in the absence of autumn sowing, agricultural experts view it as extremely disturbing, which will also affect wheat crops.

Agricultural Policy Department Director at the Ministry of Agriculture (DPBT), Isuf Cikaqi, has said that adverse climate conditions have enabled only 10 percent of the planned surfaces to be planted.

“Planification for autumn planting in 2018 is 75 thousand to 80 thousand hectares, but unfortunately only about 10 percent of the planned surface, due to adverse climate conditions that have swept our country (the lack of rainfall that has been able to prepare land for planting practice)”, Cickaqi told Television.

He said that this year from the wheat culture, about 75 thousand hectares are planned to be planted.

The culture of wheat alone this year is designed to plant some 75,000 hectares, but that such a thing this year as well as other years depends on several factors but, in the first place, on climate conditions, how favourable they will be to enable the development of the <x1 plant, the director said DBT's, Isuf Chicago.

Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterina at the University of Pristina, Imer Rusinovac, has told Telegrafi that the data from the ground shows there are delays, according to him, these delays are disturbing.

“According to last year, this year was more specific because it was marked by drought in the last two or three months. A very small portion of the farmers were able to cultivate wheat parts. The ground data is disturbing even though planting is continuing here on several small surfaces”, Rusinovac said.

He sought from farmers to continue planting where conditions exist, but the amount of artificial seeds and waste on earth must be added.

“For later plantings that are after October, we recommended planting where it can be done with an increase of seed and waste doses for more than 20 percent, and I think that delayed meetings will take place where the Earth climate conditions exist, regardless of how farmers should be careful to have a greater uniformization of new plants”, he said.

Russia warns that if crops are not realized, then the importation of cereals will be markedly larger.

“The trade of cereal imports of past years has been disturbing, and last year it is expected to be markedly more disturbing to the fact that in these autumn plantings, the planting of planned surfaces will not be achieved, then import will be markedly greater”, Professor Imer Rusinovac said.

He recommends that the agriculture sector be given adequate treatment.

I recommend that all farmers have a certain scale of furniture, I recommend that the Ministry of Agriculture be very active on the ground as well as on monitoring, I recommend that the Government of Kosovo once and for all give the proper agriculture treatment in general, of cereals in particular so that this important economic sector has the right”, he recommended.

According to the MBPZHR, Kosovo from wheat productivity meets about 80 per cent of the needs for consumption, while corn meets about 87 per cent.

In 2016, from the total grain - planted surface, 65.5 percent is seed - planted. With an area of 88,122 hectares, wheat productivity is 365,651 tonnes, and with that the producer Kosovo manages to cover about 80 percent of its consumption needs while the rest are covered by imports. In 2016 the corn surface was almost the same as 2015, and production is 42 percent higher as a result of productivity growth. With this amount of production, Kosovo can cover 87 per cent of domestic needs, with the majority being used as animal food. To meet general needs Kosovo also imports corn and trade balance remains negative in value of 4.1m euros”, said the “Green Report 2017”, published by the MBPZHR.

From the latest census of family economies and residences, it is estimated that in Kosovo the exploited area of agricultural land is 416 thousand and 072 hectares.

Of the total area exploited by agricultural land, most belong to meadows and pastures by 52.5 percent, as well as to arable land, where fields participate by 44.9 percent, multi-year-old cultures with 2.3 percent, and gardens of 0.3 percent. Therable land, the majority of it, is of 64.6 percent cereals, ground - strengthening plants at 19.3 percent, vegetables at 4.5 percent, potatoes at 2.3 percent, legumes 1.9 percent, industrial plants at 0.2 percent, other cultures at 1.2 percent, and barren land at 5.9 percent<1).
