Diplomatic reshuffle required for European states that have not recognised Kosovo

“Diplomatic differences are one of Kosovo's key foreign policy priorities. International recognitions depend heavily on the foreign policy diplomatic strategy. This scripture argues that recognitions by the 5 non-recognitional countries are of particular importance in light of Kosovo's geostrategic goals, as well as its aspirations in Euro-Atlantic integration”, the report says.
Due to limited success over the past ten years, the need for Kosovo to reshape and re-organize its diplomatic arsenal for a more productive approach in relation to the 5 non-recognitional. It is important to point out that the 5 non-recognitional is not a unified bloc, but five different states that look at or appreciate Kosovo by their national prism, each individually”.
Recognition by Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain, according to the PIPS, would potentially pave the way for faster EU integration. However, to understand why these states continue not to recognise the republic of Kosovo, it is extremely important to understand the reason behind that stance.
“In essence, there are two key arguments for non-recognition of Kosovo's independence from the 5 non-recognitional EU: disrespect of international law and fear by separatist groups”, the PIPS says.
