The number of minors who are being punished is only increasing over the years. During the past year alone, 776 minors have been convicted in the country, while in court hearings at the Constitutional Courts of Kosovo, an additional thousand are facing charges. Meanwhile, the number of minors convicted in the last decade amounts to about seven thousand.
The most serious case of minor involvement in the crime is September 6th, 2017, when minor Aulon Zeka was killed by another minor. Four bullets fired in his direction left him dead instead of 16. His lifeless body was found that night, near the school “Moldel”, in the capital.
All this is suspected because of a love relationship. Meanwhile, three minors were arrested for the murder of Aulon just one day after the murder, who were sentenced to a full 15 - year prison sentence in April.
But these are not the only minors who were sentenced by Kosovo's justice bodies, who are in pain of punishment.
Their number over the years is only growing, and prison rooms have become “second home” for them, now and again.
Since 2007, the number of minors convicted of various criminal acts totals about 7 thousand minors. Meanwhile, only last year were 766 minors sentenced for various criminal acts.
All this by “report Jurisprudence statistics 2017”, which has published the Kosovo Statistics Agency (ASK).
According to this report, most minors are convicted of such acts as terrorism recruiting, trafficking in people, murder, assault, sexual abuse, narcotics possession, theft, blackmail, forest theft, and unauthorized possession of weapons.
Meanwhile, most minors convicted over the years belong to the male gender. Of the 766 minors convicted during the past year, only 40 were girls, writes Express.
But besides minors, the number of convicted large persons is not small. The number of convicts last year reached about 20,000. Meanwhile, more than 26 thousand people are charged by the Constitutional Courts in the country. Most of them for theft, murder, misuse, and other criminal acts
And in the country, illegal detentions are not rare. And among the people are those who are without any proof.
In 2017 alone, there were 153 such cases, with the Judiciary Council forced to pay 365 thousand euros to the injured. As for 2018 by July for compensation, 148 requests have been submitted, while 300 thousand euros have been spent.
