A Russian man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after breaking his wife's hands with axes.
A court in the Moscow region has convicted 27-year-old Dmitry Grichyov on 15 November after declaring him guilty of serious injuries, kidnappings and other charges.
The court has also ordered him to pay his wife compensation for the value of 30,000 euros in moral damage.
Investigators have said that in December 2017, Gachyov has sent his wife Margarita to the forest, 50 miles [80 km] south of Moscow and tied his hands.
He then ordered her to prove herself unfaithful and then cut her hands.
According to them, a month before the incident took place, Gachyov has sent his wife into the forest and threatened her with murder, accusing her of treason.
The woman has earlier complained to a local police official who has refused to launch an investigation.
The couple split up in September, until their final testimony in court, Gachyov has said he has repented of what he described as a very big “error” and has apologized to his ex-wife and two children.
After a psychiatric examination it has been found that the defendant has had mental disorders.
Grazyov and his former wife have told reporters they will appeal the sentence.
