So said the French Embassy, along with the non-governmental organisation “Balkan Green Foundation”, organised today for air pollution.
Didier Chamber, the French ambassador to Kosovo, said greater awareness of the citizens of the problem is needed, and that Kosovo institutions must present quick solutions, especially for the capital.
“Energy is built in Kosovo with coal, thermal power plants are old and this is extremely disturbing for Kosovo. Then the issue of renewable energy in Pristina. The insufficientness of public transportation because they dominate private cars, this proves that there has been no urban planning in the city of Pristina, the public transportation plan has not yet been regulated, parks trouble oil issue is also a problem for your city. What Kosovo has to do is to have political will on this issue, because there is lack. Kosovars, particularly residents of Pristina, need fresh air. This should be a priority in public politics”, Ambassador Chamber said.
While, Ulirca Richardson, from the UNDP, said air pollution deserves greater attention in Kosovo. She stressed that in Pristina it is the most urgent situation and action must be taken.
Bashkim Musliu, representative from the Ministry of Environment and Space Planning, said important aspects have the awareness of citizens for preventing air pollution.
Adonis Tahiri, spokesman in the Pristina municipality, has been saying municipal actions to solve this problem, adding that they are removing coal as a means of heating.
