Washington expects Beijing to undertake a dramatic change in all its policies for addressing US requirements, on the contrary, the latter is prepared for a long hostility, Vice President Mike Pence has declared.
The Trump administration's confrontational stance is described by journalist Josh Rogin in an opinion article in the Washington Post.
He said the Pence had communicated this during a flight aboard Air Force Two.
The U.S. wants China to offer solutions for a wide range of complaints, from copyright protection to territorial claims in the South China Sea.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is also expected to make a pledge to change Beijing's economic, military and political behaviour during his meeting with US President Donald Trump during the G20 summit in Buenos Aires on November 30th.
If Washington is not satisfied, a Cold War will begin, according to Rogin.
All that will depend on Argentina”, Pence said, conveys the alarmnews.tv.
The president's “position is that we want to make sure that they know where we stand, what we're prepared to do, so they can come to Argentina with concrete proposals not only addressing the trade deficit we're facing... We are convinced that China knows where we stand at”.
Pence said the US is “in a strong position” for a possible escalation of the trade war it has already undertaken in front of China.
He added that the US would not back down if Beijing decides to continue current policies.
Washington is pressing pressure on Beijing in recent years, imposing tariffs for Chinese goods and recently accusing China of interfering with US domestic policy.
And Beijing seems to have no intention of accepting it.
He responds to US tariffs with his protectionist measures and continues his million-dollar one-generation investment programme, which aims to ensure other sustainable trade routes for its most important suppliers and clients.
