How many votes Zaev needs to resolve Macedonia-Greece dispute

Macedonia after yesterday's day and the unsuccessful name referendum continues to remain at a crossroads: either it will continue towards Euro-Atlantic integration, or it will turn back, into isolation and blocked for any progress, named <x0 temporary” I RJM, outside international organisations and without access to EU funds, which by far [...]

In addition, continuing to stay outside NATO and without the Alliance's support, it will also be found in a fragile security situation.

After allowing it to pave the way for resolution of name dispute with Greece with the referendum, now, if it wants to avoid this second, reggression route, with the same “profiting” sound alliance with Moscow and other anti-Western and anti-democratic forces in the world, it remains the possibility that the necessary change of the constitution will be made with two-thirds of the votes in Parliament.

Followers of the dispute settlement with the southern neighbour, the Social Democrat League of Macedonia and Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, along with other parties supporting him and with all Albanian parties, in Parliament have a total of 72 votes, which means that they need 9 votes to secure the necessary two-thirds.

Zaev said in the speech last night that the first job the ruling coalition will do is to try to convince the opposition to vote on changing the Constitution, respectively, to secure even the needed nine votes. The fact that 4 or 5 VMRO deputies can do so gives some hope Opposition DPMNE, despite the party's silent boycott, went out yesterday to vote.

Whether this necessary majority will be achieved, according to the prime minister, will be announced in the next 10 days, while if that goal is not achieved, the extraordinary elections, which would have been held no later than in November of this year, will immediately be announced. The goal is clear: The LSDM and its allies, along with Albanian parties, manage to secure over 80 deputies in the 120-member Assembly in order not to depend on VMRO.

The target does not seem irreplaceable, given that the vote “for” changed the name yesterday gave about 600 thousand voters as much as, as mentioned, never so far in any election cycle has gained any political subject. The first reactions from Brussels and the US encouraged the Zaev Government to send the issue to Parliament.

While VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristian Mickoski is probably aware of the danger for his party from the extraordinary elections, because in his speech last night, he rejected the option.

“Macedonia does not need extraordinary elections, only Zaev let it be made ready for political retirement”, said Mickoski, who was interpreted in public as paradoxically, because Zaev's resignation would nevertheless mean going to early elections.

The fear of democratic opinion in Macedonia is that, most likely, after these elections, the country would remain with weak and helpless opposition, which is not good for any country anyway.
