At least 18 people have been killed and 171 have been injured after an express train has come out of the tracks, the worst railway accident that has occurred over the 20 years on the island.
The express train, Puyuma, had more than 366 passengers while traveling from a suburb of Taipei to the southern town of Taitung, when it took off track, the Taiwan government said in a statement.
The National Fire Agency initially said 22 people died in the accident, but later reduced their numbers to 18, saying it was a mistake in accounting.
