Stoltenberg: No B plan for Macedonia

Secretary - General NATO Jens Stoltenberg today ordered that there is no plan B for Macedonia, because the country now has the opportunity which happens once in life and that it can become a NATO member only if it accepts the agreement with Greece. I firmly believe that what the country should do now is [...]
“I strongly believe that what the country has to do now is make decisions for further steps. The government and Parliament must bring about these decisions. To decide how to move forward, how to react to the referendum and all the political consequences and implications it brought to”, Stoltenberg, who is visiting Serbia today, said.
Secretary - General NATO stressed that if democratic institutions in Skopje decide to implement the whole agreement with Greece, then NATO is willing soon to accept Macedonia as its 30th member.
“can soon start signing the membership protocol, very soon after the name change. It remains to the elected democratic institutions in Macedonia whether they will accept and implement the name agreement. We are willing to accept Macedonia as a new member”, Stoltenberg stressed.
He reiterated that there is no plan B or other alternative for Macedonia's membership except to implement the agreement with Greece.
There are no memberships without the name agreement. The only way for membership is for the country to deal with Greece about name dispute. For this we welcome the agreement between the two countries”, Stoltenberg said.
Secretary - General NATO says the Alliance will not pressure Macedonia to bring decisions, because it is about sovereign decisions of a sovereign country.
But this is a possibility that happens once in a lifetime. They have the opportunity and should use this historic moment”, Stoltenberg ordered.
