About 15 thousand soldiers have reportedly been part of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
But about 60 thousand people have applied to obtain veteran status, making the process very complicated, and even the justice institutions are already taking the case.
On the other hand, a process of application is under way that recognition of the status of victims of sexual violence.
But can this process be diverted given the irregularities that have occurred in applications to become a veteran.
Minire Begaj-Balaj, chairman of the government Commission for recognition and verification of the status of violent persons during the war, has said they have so far rejected 103 applications.
“Application is one that requires a lot of data. Anyone who has signed on that story will respond, as will members of the” Commission, Begaj-Balaj said at Info Magazine in Klan Kosovo.
All those who try to apply must be convinced of what they say. Because we can even interview people and often they're rejected because of the conflicting interview with the data they've presented on the app”.
Feride Rushiti, executive director of the Centre for the rehabilitation of torture victims, has said that given the way this whole process was built, there is minimal space to deviate.
“Standards ensure that the process was creditable. The process is very balanced. Time has made it its own and has allowed us to do such a credible process, given the bad examples from the” region, Rusiti said in Info Magazine.
So far, 140 cases have been recognised as victims of sexual violence, which receive 230 euros in salaries, while at the country level there are 750 applications expected to be reviewed.
The application has officially begun on February 5th. There are several ways of application, each person can apply to the secretary in Pristina, apply to the four organisations that are authorised as well as can apply to seven regional offices.
This debate has been fought after today's Nobel Peace Prize has been shared with the two personalities who campaign against sexual violence in war.
Nobel's Norwegian Committee announced that the Congolese surgeon of gynecology, Denis Mukwege, and Nadia Murad were given this award “for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as weapons of war or armed conflict”.
During the recent war in Kosovo, about 20,000 cases of sexual abuse have been reported.
