At least nine climbers lost their lives when a violent snowstorm struck their camp on the slopes of Mount Gurja in western Nepal.
According to Wangchu Sherpa, director of Camp Nepal's trip, the victims are five South Koreans, from the Himal Cave expedition, 2018, including team leader Kim Chang-ho and four Nepalese who were part of the same expedition.
The five-member expedition and four Nepal guide groups were camped on Mount Gurja when the storm struck, police reported.
A rescue helicopter confirmed that it saw eight bodies in the ruins of the camp, but could not stay because of the bad weather.
Local media reported that South Korean Kim Chang-ho, the fastest to reach 14 Mays of the world without using oxygen cones, is among the dead.
Organisers had raised the alarm after losing contact with the group for about 24 hours. /rel
