Cuba Cross, a psychologist at the Academy of Sciences in Poland, has recently published a study for “Sychgien of uncertainty”. This term actually means that people of different societies feel anxiety in situations that are uncertain. This feature is more expressed in politically closed societies where schools are respected, where everything is especially structured about science and strong social standards.
In countries where corruption has greater privacy and civil services are less stable. Hence, this research argues that smiling in such places would not be well received and would seem inappropriate. To test this, hundreds of people in 44 countries were asked in the research to judge smiling, unLaughterful faces.
The results showed that people from Russia, Japan and Iran appreciated smiling faces as less intelligent and less honest. This is an interesting theory, but the study suggests that gender and culture can also play a role and that the sample is not the complete representative of all cultures.
