The train will go from Germany to the Russian town of Kaliningrad and then to St Petersburg.
Currently, there are no direct railways between St. Petersburg and Berlin. Passengers must take about 32 hours to get to the destinations in question and must change trains twice.
The new railway will also reduce travel time between St Petersburg and Kaliningrad in almost half the time.
The countries have provided no information about the start date for railway construction.
