Greek Prime Minister Alexis Cipras in telephone conversation has congratulated Prime Minister Zaev on the commitment to implementing the Prespa Agreement, now in the Parliament through constitutional changes. Foreign Minister Nikos Kocias has said the Greek government respects the citizens' decision and will continue to strongly support the Agreement.
Although it is a consultative referendum and not part of the binding provisions of the Prespa Agreement, it is contradictory -- a powerful “Po<x1-> dominant without relevant participation; a large part of the neighbouring country's society supported the agreement. Serious on all sides is needed for the next steps to ensure positive dynamics for the Prespa Agreement -- said the Greek Foreign Ministry communiqué.
On the other hand, the coalition government partner, Independent Greek party leader Panos Kamenos, has deemed the referendum invalid due to low exits. Kamenos once again has reiterated that his party will not support the name agreement if it is put to a vote in the Greek Assembly. Of opposition parties, only Potam has positively assessed the outcome of the referendum, demanding that Greece continue to support the country's European path.
Potam
We Greeks have to sync with our partners and allies. We must support the European path of neighbouring country and closer relations with the West. All of us who have influence in public opinion must be released from victim syndrome. Greece will not be a loser in this situation. We just understand and define patriotic priorities. ”
Other opposition parties, starting with New Democracy once again repeated their scepticism for the success of the agreement. In the short communiqué shortly after the referendum results were announced, from this party said they would do their best to keep the harmful nationalist agreement in place. From the Movement for Change said that after the Greek people, the IRJM also turned their backs on the Zaev-Cipras Agreement.
Movement for Change
The fact that the Serbs turned their backs on the deal given to Macedonian languages and nationality shows how deep the irredentist and nationalist stereotypes in the neighbouring country are, that this agreement will create only additional problems. ”
From the neo-nationalist party, Golden Dawn announced that the referendum result could not change history, as according to them Macedonia was and will remain Greek. Otherwise, while the country's citizens were voting, a group of Greeks protested at the main border crossing between Macedonia and Greece, with the slogan “Macedonians may only be Greek.
