Osmani: 90% of ambassadors are politicised

Even 90% of Kosovo ambassadors are political. So at least it has been outlined in a pronomination for Telegrafi, head of the Commission for Foreign Affairs, simultaneously the LDK deputy Vjosa Osmani.

She has said the Haradinaj government has turned foreign service into a service of the ruling parties.

“The law is clear in the request that political appointments cannot be over 50%. Unfortunately, we now have a huge overstep of this percentage and political appointments have reached some 90%, thus turning foreign service into a service of the ruling parties”, Osmani has declared.

She has stressed that these legal violations have also been discussed at the commission meetings she is running, adding that they have formed a task force to monitor the situation.

So far we've handled these legal violations at many of the Commission's meetings, including the recent meeting where we've handled the EPJ union assessments about these violations.

As the Commission, we have formed a working group that will particularly monitor these violations and within two weeks it will come up with a recommendation”, Osman stressed.

On the other hand, LDK deputy has indicated that they have asked President Hashim Thaci not to decree political ambassadors' appointments.

“We have also called on the president not to decree political appointments, since it conflicts with his constitutional law and competencies, but as expected he has continued with the signing of such appointments”, Osmani said.

Meanwhile, Article 7.7 of the Law for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Service clearly stipulates that the ambassadors' political appointments should not be over 50%.

“S at least 50 percent (50%) of ambassador's appointment and mission chiefs should be made by incumbent members of the Kosovo Republic Foreign Service”, the Law for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says.
