German Chancellor Angela Merkel said today in Berlin, before the start of the EU Summit for Brex, that there is still an opportunity to conclude an agreement on the departure of Great Britain from the EU and that Berlin is ready for all options, including the possibility of leaving without agreement.
Speaking to MPs in the German parliament, Merkel said the agreement had not yet been reached on conditions related to the border between northern and southern Ireland.
“I want Britain to be a close and reliable partner for Europe after leaving”, the German Chancellor said.
As she said, there is now a chance for a good and strong agreement on Britain's EU exit.
The “but it must be clear that there will always be a difference between membership and partnership”, Merkel concluded.
