Interpol Director Meng Hongwei, whose disappearance was reported earlier, is believed to be in China and he was taken under investigation by Chinese authorities after his arrival in that country.
This news has revealed Hong Kong's newspaper “South Tea Morning Post”, referring to unnamed sources.
Meng, 64, reportedly arrived in China last week.
On the Chinese Public Security Ministry website, Meng is listed as deputy minister, but has lost his post at the Communist Party committee in April, it said. He was appointed director of Interpol in 2016.
