A court in Germany has ordered the extradition of a Bulgarian, who was detained earlier this week on suspicion of rape and murder of Bulgarian journalist Viktorija Marinova.
The suspect was arrested Tuesday in Stade, near the German city of Hamburg.
According to a statement by the Regional Supreme Court in Celle, the suspect will be extradited within the next 10 days from Germany to Bulgaria.
Bulgarian authorities accuse him of raping, killing and robbing Marinova on 6 October in the Bulgarian town of Rus.
According to the prosecutor, Bernd Kolkmeier, the suspect partially admitted his actions during the interrogation.
“He acknowledged that on the morning of October 7, 2018 was under strong influence of alcohol and drugs, and that he struck an unknown young woman in the face in a park on the banks of Bulgaria's Danube River in Russia,” the prosecutor said in a statement. He then threw his wife into a bush and denied that he had intentionally killed her or that he had raped and robbed her. ”
Kolkmeier added that, according to the suspect, he has not previously recognized the victim and that it excludes the murder for political motive.
“He will be extradited to Bulgaria and Bulgarian authorities will take over the investigation,”-the prosecutor said.
