A city in China is planning an artificial moon that will shine up to 50 miles [80 km] around.
The so-called translucent <x0sel”, which is expected to be located in the southwestern town of Chengdu in 2020, is said to be eight times brighter than the real moon.
Officials have issued some details on the project, but say the idea promotes inspiration by a French artist who predicted a necklace of mirrors hanging on Earth.
Wu Chunfend, chairman of the Institute for Research of the Chengdu Science and Technology Microelectrics System, unveiled the plan at an event in the city, reports People Daily, broadcast Periscope.
The artificial moon can be controlled and light up to 10 to 80 miles [10 to 50 km] wide.
