During 2006 - 2007, Gashi was elected to the office of director of the Department of Internal Security Policy at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Gashi received the title Doctor Science with the protection of the theme “Military Presence in Kosovo in 1945-1990”, “Spiro Moisiu”, Tirana.
He was born on July 27, 1957, in Pristina.
He's a member of the New Kosovo Alliance. Before being appointed to head the MPB, he was deputy minister of the Kosovo Security Force.
He was appointed to the post of first rule in Kosovo, following Flamur Sefaj's resignation, which Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj asked for, who said he had lost confidence in Sefaj after failing to report ahead of the event about the arrest and deportation of 6 Turkish citizens.
