Australia will consider recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and shifting its embassy there, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.
If that happens, the move would follow similar US policy, which has triggered international criticism last year.
Morrison said Australia remains committed to a solution of two Israeli-Palestinian conflict states.
Political opponents say his comments are a false <x0-tachtic” per vote, ahead of an important election process to be held on Saturday.
Jerusalem's status is one of the most controversial issues between Israel and Palestinians.
The Palestinians consider it the capital of their future state.
Israel, meanwhile, has conquered East Jerusalem in the 1967 war and claims that the whole city is its capital.
Last year, American President Donald Trump, recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, as the American Embassy moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in May.
