Bank robbery has become common in Kosovo in recent years. Two such cases have been recorded in the country for only a week.

But what exactly is the number of robbery cases that have occurred through banks and the amount of money that thieves have stolen, in the Kosovo Police say they do not have such statistics. Until they claim that 221 cases of robbery have been reported during this year alone, the figure that in the last two years accounts for about 500 such cases.

The customs terminal in Merdara on Friday passively was the target of thieves.

Four masked and armed persons took the lead in robbing a bank subsidiary located in this terminal to get the money they believed was in the bank's vault.

But their way went astray from them, when they could not recover anything from it, except that they feared the workers and those around it. This is not the only time a bank is robbed.

Two days after that, two armed men stormed another bank in Caglavica. The amount of money thieves have received from this bank is believed to be about 6 thousand euros.

For these two cases, police have so far arrested six people, while the three others are also searching.

But how many banks have been robbed in the country in recent years and how much money has been stolen, even the investigative institutions are unaware. At least they're not offering information like that.

In the Kosovo Police have told Gazeta Express that they can only offer information about cases of robberies throughout Kosovo, no matter where they happened.

They claim that 221 cases of domestic robbery have been reported this year alone, which in the last two years totals about 500 such cases

Kosovo's “Police are committed to implementing the law and creating greater security for all.

Any incident that endangers general security or obstructing the realisation of official duties, police will firmly respond to and will have no tolerance towards violators of law”, police responses reported.

Meanwhile, even the number of thefts has increased greatly. In the last two years alone, over 10,000 thefts have occurred in the country. Even to accomplish their purpose, thieves are not saving the lives of people and religious objects.
