“We don't need an empire, we need a Association of Free States”, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said after meeting with his counterparts of the Visegrad Group (Hungari, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland) in Budapest.
In this summit focused on issues related to the future of the EU, the Visegrad countries asked that they have more weight on common issues, the leaders of these countries said.
European “Institutions should not raise issues without consensus from member states”, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said. In 2015, Orban and Hungary led the Visegrad Group in an open fight with German Chancellor Angela Merkel's policy on refugees and an EU plan to disperse refugees across the Union.
