US Defence Secretary James Mattis urged Turkey to refrain from its offensive against Kurdish militia in Syria.
“takes Turkey's legitimate security concerns very seriously and we are committed to working on them with NATO allies”, Mattis said in Jakarta, at the start of an Asian tour.
“Call on Turkey to exercise restraint from military action and rhetoric”, he added.
Turkey's President, Recep Tayip Erdogan, has pledged to intensify the offensive against Kurdish militia in neighbouring Syria.
Turkey considers militia as a terrorist group and as a branch of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PPK), which wants autonomy for Kurds inside Turkey.

This militia, which controls large territories in northeast Syria, has been a leading US ally in the fight against Islamic State militants there.
Ankara now demands that the alliance end, saying the fight against the Islamic State is over.
“Call on all sides to remain focused on the fight against Islamic State”, Mattis said.
Turkish forces have launched an offensive against Kurdish militia in Africa on Saturday. Thousands of civilians have reportedly fled the area.
