The Ministry of Labour and Social Management, based on its scope and mandate, in addition to other social categories, is aimed at and objectively supporting poor families, through offering to pay social assistance, for families meeting criteria under Law No. 04/ L-096 for Changing and Fulfilling Law No. 20/03/15 for the Social Assistance Centre in Kosovo”, Recica said.

Furthermore, it is said that based on data published by local and international institutions on poverty and unemployment, families in the Social Assistance Centre continue to be the poorest and most economically and socially hit class.

Recica said that despite the movement of prices of several items within the food basket, the amount of social aid has not been up since 2015 and has not been harmonised with the price index. So based on research and analysis of price movement and harmonisation with food basket prices, growth has been proposed for 20%, which received approval from the government cabinet.

Social assistance is based on how many members a family has. 1 member with 40 points x 1.50 euros, which is to benefit 60 euros and the maximum 15-member family by 120 points x 1.50 euros, will obtain 180 euros per month. This increase will begin to apply on January 1st 2018. /Peroscopy/
