Lemon tea, coffee and Mandarin are products most consumed by Kosovars during the winter. Just to have these products on their tables, they spend millions of euros a year.
For two years in Kosovo, 27 million pounds of Mandarin and lemons have been introduced, whose value totals 10.9m euros.
That citizens of the poorest state in Europe have consumed these products greatly, even the statistics on importing these products that Word newspaper has provided from Kosovo Customs testify.
“in 2016 has been imported by 14 million and 256 thousand and 888kg of Mandarin and lemons, while in 2017 13 million and 43 thousand and 25 kilograms of Mandarin and lemons”, Customs spokesman Stavileci said.
Only the Mandarin, according to him, was bought this year by Kosovars at 9.5m pounds, totaling 2.8m euros.
While another 3.4 million pounds [3.4 million kg] of lemons have been imported, at a cost of 2.1m euros, writes Word newspaper.
23m euros for coffee and tea
The amount of coffee and tea imported is also large. Approximately 23m euros per year have been spent by Kosovars for imports of these beverages.
“in 2016, 9,656,098,000 kilograms of tea and coffee were imported, and reaching the figure of 23,893,434.00 euro”, the Kosovo Customs spokesman, the Adriatic Stavileci, has told Gazeta.
That figure has been high even in the following year. In the first six months of 2017 alone, 5.7 million pounds [5.7 million kg] of tea and coffee have been imported, worth 17m euros.
Import Even From South Africa
But, although largely consumed, none of these products are produced in Kosovo.
There are more than 20 states inside and outside Europe from which Kosovo provides these products. The largest quantity of these products come from Albania, followed by Greece and Turkey.
More than 6 million pounds [6 million kg] of mandarine, worth more than 600 thousand pounds of lemons, have been imported from Albania alone.
Meanwhile, only import of coffee from Brazil costs over 4m euros.
“Brazil imports 2 million and 663 thousand and 3 kilograms of coffee”, the Adriatic Stavileci said of the Word Gazette.
Other states from which our country imports these products are also: Croatia, Cyprus, Israel, South Africa, Spain, Egypt, Turkey, Italy, Peru, Israel, Estonia, Belgium, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay and Vietnam.
Mandarin “Elements”, Kosovars' favourites
There are many consumers, but not everyone likes the same type of agrum and drinks. It turns out that Kosovars' favorites are the Mandarins of the type “Centines” and “Wilkings”, while the lemons most used are those of “Citrus lemon” and “Citrus lemonization”.
At least that's what Kosovo Customs statistics have provided.
Even coffee doesn't everyone like the same. The kind of coffee that is most imported by the immature and decafinized, then the ripe, undecafenized coffee.
“In the first six quarters of 2017 were imported 3.5 kilograms of immature and decapitated coffee, while 808 thousand pounds of baked coffee, undecapited”, Stavileci said of the Word Journal.
But on the Kosovo market, they also find use of coffee substitutes, but they have content, as well as leather and coffee.
And in the type of tea, the favorite is black tea, with up to three pounds [3 kg] of packing tea, followed by green tea at nearly three pounds [3 kg].
“are imported 775 thousand and 165 thousand kilograms of black tea, while 7 thousand and 171kg of green tea”, says Kosovo Customs import statistics provided.
In contrast, most of these products are said to have healing properties as well as prevent a large number of diseases. /The Word/
