Hashim Thaci has been making six public universities, such as Prizren, Pec, Gjilan, Gjakova, Mitrovica and Ferizaj. The Education Ministry has formed a commission to assess the stability of these universities.
Minister Shyqih Bytyqi has warned of the possibility of turning them into Faculte. The prime minister has said it will be done carefully. In fact, even during election campaigns, the AAK chief had said that Kosovo needs so many public universities.
Minister of Education Shyqi, Bytyqi, has said today that the possibility of re-inventing public universities will be seen.
According to him, universities in question, other than Pristina's, can be transformed into faculties that are profiled with the needs of the areas in which they are located.
Bytyqi has indicated that the commission formed to assess the state of public universities will come up with a report that will show their stability.
“Linked to commissions to assess the sustainability of public universities, we have formed a commission, actually the commission is almost on the finalisation of work. The idea of this commission is to make an assessment of the sustainability and quality of public universities”, he indicated.
Minister Bytyqi said that the transformation of public universities into faculties will also take place by inspecting them with labour market needs in the region where they are located.
“Under the assessment, if we note that quality is not at the right level, and sustainability is questioned, then these universities can be transformed into respective faculties, both universities in Kosovo. It's not about closing faculties, it's just about becoming campuses of two universities in Kosovo”.
He has said all of this is being done to raise quality in education.
“think about raising quality. We think the prime minister is also interested in supporting us in establishing the quality of the university system”, Minister Bytyqi has said.
Currently, six public universities are open in Prizren, Pec, Gjilan, Gjakova, Mitrovica and Ferizaj.
